BackRank ("BackRank," "we," "us," or "our") operates the website located at backrank.ai and the associated email coaching service (together, the "Service"). This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, and the choices you have. By using the Service you agree to this Policy.

1. Information we collect

We collect only what we need to deliver the Service. Specifically:

• Account information. Your email address, your chess.com username, your timezone, and any coaching preferences you provide.
• Chess game data. Publicly available games from your chess.com profile, including PGNs, ratings, time controls, results, and timestamps. We fetch this only because you have provided your username and asked us to coach you on it.
• Service activity. A record of the emails we have sent you, the lessons and patterns we have surfaced, and engine-derived analysis of your games, so we can avoid repeating ourselves and improve our coaching over time.
• Billing information (if you subscribe to a paid plan). Payments are processed by our payment processor; we receive a customer reference and subscription status, but we do not see or store your full card details.

2. What we do not collect

• We do not use third-party advertising trackers, pixels, or behavioral analytics on backrank.ai.
• We do not embed tracking pixels in the emails we send you.
• We do not build a profile of you for advertising purposes.
• We do not knowingly collect information from children under 13.

3. How we use your information

We use the information described above to:

• Fetch and analyze your chess.com games.
• Generate and send you the daily and weekly coaching emails.
• Maintain a history of what we have already taught you.
• Operate, secure, and improve the Service.
• Process payments and manage subscriptions (paid plans only).
• Communicate with you about your account or material changes to the Service.

4. Sharing of information

We do not sell, rent, or trade your personal information. We share information only with the service providers we need in order to operate the Service:

• Our hosting and database providers, who store the data on our behalf.
• Our email delivery provider, which sends the emails you have asked to receive.
• Our payment processor, for paid subscriptions.
• The AI model provider we use to draft coaching narrative. Game data and prompts are sent for the purpose of generating your lesson and are not used to train third-party models.
• The chess.com public API, from which we read your games (we do not transmit personal data to chess.com beyond your public username).

We may also disclose information when required by law, to protect the rights and safety of BackRank or others, or in connection with a corporate transaction such as a merger or acquisition (in which case we will notify you).

5. Data retention

We retain your account information and lesson history for as long as your account is active, so we can keep your coaching coherent over time. If you delete your account, we will delete or anonymize your personal information within a reasonable period, except where we are required to retain it for legal, accounting, or fraud- prevention purposes.

6. Your choices

• Unsubscribe. Every email we send includes an unsubscribe link, and you can pause or stop emails at any time from your account settings.
• Access, correction, and deletion. You can request a copy of the personal information we hold about you, ask us to correct it, or ask us to delete your account. Email us at the address below.
• Regional rights. Depending on where you live (for example the EEA, UK, or California), you may have additional rights under local law, including the right to object to certain processing or to lodge a complaint with a regulator.

7. Security

We use commercially reasonable administrative, technical, and physical safeguards to protect your information. No method of transmission or storage is perfectly secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.

8. International users

BackRank is operated from the United States. If you use the Service from outside the United States, you understand that your information will be processed in the United States, which may have data-protection laws different from those of your country.

9. Changes to this Policy

We may update this Policy from time to time. If we make material changes, we will notify you by email or by posting a notice on the Service. Your continued use of the Service after the changes take effect constitutes acceptance of the updated Policy.
